LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The largest music and food festival to hit Los Angeles in years filled Crenshaw Boulevard with more than 50,000 food and music lovers on a spectacular autumn day. The ultimate family affair, the second annual Taste of Soul combined some of the best food in Southern California, dancing to some of the biggest acts in music and learning about the latest in health care. The local economy received a much needed lift as thousands of dollars were recycled among area merchants.

"Last year was a wake up call that South Los Angeles is alive with its own vibrant drumbeat of heart-stopping music, taste-tantalizing foods and a unique multiculturalism," said Danny Bakewell Sr., event founder and publisher of the Los Angeles Sentinel. "The second annual Taste of Soul promises to put Crenshaw Boulevard on the cultural map, making it a can''t miss annual event for all Angelenos."

The free event was held on historic Crenshaw Boulevard and featured live music, food and fun for the entire family. In the true spirit of working together, both private and public entities joined together to offer retail shopping and community services under a unified Los Angeles sky.

Entertainment was provided by R&B singer Angie Stone; singer and actor Rahsaan Patterson; entertainer Bobby Brown; singer Angela Winbush; recording artist Evelyn "Champagne" King; celebrated vocalist, songwriter and producer Gary Taylor; soul artist Leon Ware; inspirational jazz and gospel star Jeff Majors; The Polyester Players; the Los Angeles Multi-School Jazz Band and more.

"The second annual Taste of Soul is a unique showcase of African American and Hispanic cultures," said Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Burke. "It is a wonderful demonstration of how we can celebrate the uniqueness of our different cultures in a safe, fun and friendly environment. I am proud to represent this community."

Taste of Soul was a collaboration of the Los Angeles Sentinel; Mothers in Action; the new V100 radio; Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Burke; Councilman Bernard Parks, 8th District; and Councilman Herb Wesson, 10th District.
